We are pleased to announce that two scientific contributions developed within the AI4Water project have been accepted for presentation at MedGU-26, the 6th Annual Meeting of the Mediterranean Geosciences Union, taking place in Cairo, Egypt, from 8 to 11 November 2026.

The two papers reflect the multidisciplinary and international nature of AI4Water, combining Artificial Intelligence, hydrology, environmental monitoring and water-resource management to address key challenges affecting Mediterranean water systems.

The accepted contributions also highlight the strong scientific contribution of the AI4Water Egypt Unit, particularly through research activities focused on the Nile Delta, one of the project’s key Mediterranean case-study areas.

AI4Water: Monitoring Mediterranean Coastal Water Systems

This contribution presents the broader AI4Water vision for monitoring Mediterranean coastal water systems and highlights the importance of integrating environmental data, digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence to support more effective and sustainable water management.

Hybrid AI-Hydrologic Prediction of Water Availability and Salinity Risk in the Nile Delta

A particularly significant contribution comes from the AI4Water Egypt Unit through research focused on the Nile Delta. The study explores a hybrid approach combining Artificial Intelligence and hydrological modelling to improve the prediction of water availability and salinity risk. This work strengthens the project’s understanding of water-resource dynamics in the Nile Delta and supports the development of more informed and sustainable water-management strategies.

The acceptance of these two papers provides an important opportunity to showcase both the collaborative dimension of AI4Water and the scientific contribution of the AI4Water Egypt Unit within the project’s wider Mediterranean research activities, while sharing results with the international geoscience community and strengthening cooperation around innovative solutions for water challenges.
