Goals
Optimizing water usage by leveraging AI methods aligns directly with the aim of developing effective water accounting approaches.
It aims to identify appropriate management strategies to meet agricultural and domestic water demands, crucial during crisis situations exacerbated by climate change and external shocks. Moreover, the project specifically targets areas vulnerable to water scarcity, irregular precipitation patterns, water pollution, and Salt Water Intrusion (SWI), all of which are critical aspects addressed in the PRIMA project's goals.
SO1: Predict and Manage Water Quality
Leveraging real-time monitoring, remote sensing, big data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence will be applied to gather and analyze data on water availability and usage.
SO3: Enhance Agricultural Water Supply
Develop strategies to ensure a sustainable supply of water for agriculture, which is crucial for maintaining crop yields and food security.
SO5: Incorporate Economic Valuation in Water Accounting
Integrate economic valuation and scenario analysis into water accounting to improve pricing mechanisms, regulatory frameworks, and willingness to pay.
SO7: Improve Water Decision-Making and Governance
Create networks of researchers, water users, managers, policymakers, and other stakeholders to share knowledge and improve water decision-making and governance.
SO2: Optimize Water Resource Management
Employ AI techniques such as Genetic Algorithms (GAs), Reinforcement Learning (RL), Scheduling and AI planning algorithms to develop efficient control policies for water resource management.
SO4: Set Sustainable Water Use Targets
Establish policies and AI tools for sustainable water withdrawal and consumption.
SO6: Engage Local Stakeholders
Involve local communities, government agencies, farmers, and other stakeholders in the project to ensure that AI techniques and management strategies are aligned with regional needs and priorities.
